I think the AR-556 is almost as good as my Rock River which cost almost twice as much. My only complaint was the rear sight, I prefer a dual aperture, so I purchased a Magpul and all is good. And very happy with Rural King my go to store for firearms.

I was very pleased with my recent purchase of the Ruger ar-556 at my local Rural King store located in Bonita Springs. After visiting a few local gun shops and not getting the answers that I wanted for locating a Ruger AR system I happen to visit Rural King store in Bonita and noticed they had one on the rack, and after handling it for about 30 seconds I knew I needed it er…. I wanted it.
The Firearms Personnel at the Bonita Springs store are very informative and well-educated in the Firearms business they were able to help me make my decision on purchasing the Ruger AR system online and having it delivered to the store after doing the FFL background check online at the store. By purchasing online I got a brand new unopened box firearm and a flat rate shipping of 9.95 and there is no FFL license fee if the weapon is picked up from a Rural King store.
I bought a hundred rounds of Tul ammo steel case 223 went to Cecil Webb and fired off all of them without a hitch, the platform shoots accurate out of the box and needs nothing more than what you want to put on it 4 looks. The Ruger AR platform can accept any standard AR carbine foregrips for the addition of any accessories that you see fit to use.
I have looked recently on RKGUNS.COM website and have yet to see the sr-556 takedown with 300 AAC Blackout option, this would be my next choice.
Again, a shout out to the gentlemen at the rual King Bonita Springs Florida store as it is a much better place to handle or purchase a new firearm than any of the gun stores that I visited in Fort Myers.

I’ve looked at other AR’s but I’ve never owned one until I bought this one. The S&W AR looked nice but I still can’t bring myself to buy their products after what they did in 2000. I have other Ruger products and this AR is as solidly built as my other Rugers are. This is a no frills basics AR but it’s a solid one to start customizing on if that’s what you want. If that’s not what you want then it’s still a great rifle that won’t let you down. The price may seem high for a basic AR but after all its a Ruger and you’ll be happy with it. I got mine at the Winchester Rural King and they were awesome to deal with.

Shot it for the first time yesterday. It was great. Feels solid. Three other people were with me and I do believe they are trying to find one now for them selves. The only problem I need to look into is when I moved into a shady area and the front sight was a little hard to pick up. I am going to shoot a few more times before I do anything on that. I do think I watched a video awhile back and that person had put some white paint on the front sight and it solved his problem. It has filled my need for what I need this gun for, self defense, target shooting.

I bought one last July and spent hundreds of rounds plinking with no faults or jams using cheap .223 ammunition. The stock and weight allows for my 8 year old nephew to safely shoot with no problems too.

I have received my new Ruger AR-556 and it looks & feels perfect – a lot better than my Army M1 – Have not had to range yet – will make a subsequent post after I play with it. Except for a sling, I don’t plan on modifying much. At 76, my eye sight is still pretty good but may opt for a scope later on after I sight the rifle in.

one bad thing about this rifle…the plastic delta ring, which allows removal of the handguards. this needs to be made out of some other material. if you tighten this a little bit too much, it is virtually impossible to get it loose again. this happened to me, and i had to use pliers to loosen it up. be careful when tightening the delta ring! cheapest part of this rifle which needs to be improved by ruger.

Great well built rifle Ruger came out with feels good ,and works just as good right out of box and punching paper at 50yds 3″ group optics to follow this spring and get it dialed in . Rural Kings service was just as good !

So i got my rifle while it was at reg price at 659, 2 days later it was on sale for 589. I was kinda upset so i went back and asked if they would honor it… and they did! THANK YOU RK!!! Now as for the rifle, i love it, buuuuut first trip to the range i ran into a problem, i could not empty a mag without the bolt catch locking the bolt back. I could get a few shots off at a time, then it would catch and i would have to hit the bolt release to chamber another round. I noticed the bolt catch was very loose with no spring action. Im a big fan of ruger, but i had a terrible experience with the customer service and ended up not sending my brand new rifle in and decided to figure it out myself. popped the pin to find the spring and plunger compressed in the hole.i got it to come out and put it back together, took it to the range and has ran fine ever since… Also i like the delta ring for the fact its easy to use… but the plastic is just not good. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!!

When I seen the price of this AR-556 $499, it was a no brainer. I had to buy one and this makes my 2nd one. Ruger makes a great gun and this shoots great and well worth the money .

@ $499.99 it’s a steal. Not sighted in out of the box. 15 rounds later adjusting front and back sights I was hitting bulleyes.@75 yds to start. They say not to shoot 5.56 rounds through .223’s but this AR15 takes 5.56 55 grain brass 5.56 x 45 NATO 55 grain rounds fine. Have fired Fioconni’s Remington .223’s no problem. Ruger states the chamber takes both calibers but have no confirmed evidence that the barrel can withstand 5.56 caliber hotter rounds. Overall, this is a steal @ $500.00. Wishe’d I would have bought a .308 caliber AR15. Oh well, next rifle I purchase when RK has one I like on sale.

The gun is a very very good shooting gun. Took it out of the box at 75 yards first 3 shots it shot a very tight pattern.Did not even have to move the sights. Unreal how smooth the gun shoots. So pleased I’m going to buy my son one.
